Flowers Fade

They die. They fall apart.

But the Word of God lives forever.

As I was riding a motorbike this verse popped into my head as I saw people hanging flowers on the altar to Buddha.

This too will die. It lasts a day. It lasts for a moment. Pleasure fades.

Just like everything else lasts for a moment. Our own ambitions. Our own thoughts. Our own desires. These too will die one day. But the only thing that will remain is the Word of God.

When I see this, I think how sad it is when people offer up sacrifices to their god. They offer up their money. They offer up their talent. They offer up their time. And I shake my head thinking how we do the same thing. It’s just disguised much better within our country.

In the Culture of Thailand, we can see it with our own eyes an actual idol to touch. We offer up our money, our talent, our time to what pleases us the most. This has become our own god; Ourselves.

“God, forgive us for pointing the finger at someone else for doing something wrong, when we ourselves have done the same thing, just in a better manner. Help us Lord to not be consumed with things that will become an idol and also with making ourselves our own god. You alone Lord are the reason that we breathe. Your Word will last forever. Help us to have it in us. In Jesus name, Amen.”

Isaiah 40:8

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God will stand forever.”
