Be His Masterpiece
When I stood there looking at this beautifully carved lamp made of clay, I wondered how many hours went into making it. When I asked, the lady told me it took the craftsman one month to make a single lamp. He would spend hours at the wheel shaping it, fighting with it sometimes, and molding it – one lamp at a time.
After he got the shape he wanted, he began to carve it to make it beautiful. He began to cut away parts that weren’t needed. Maybe some parts people would think the lamp needed, but in the end the craftsmen knew what he wanted his product to look like. After weeks of being handled, it had to go through the fire for 3 days and 3 nights. This would be the test to see if it would make it, come out stronger than ever, or come out completely broken to be thrown back in the pile to remake again.
This example I just shared reminds me so much of life as well. We aren’t going to be a beautiful masterpiece in one day. We have to be shaped, molded, carved, cut away, and even go through the fire of testing.
After this lamp is finished, look how beautifully it shines! It may not be completely perfect. Each one sitting on the shelf is a bit different and not one is the same. As I look at this lamp, I am reminded that we should’t hide our insecurities nor how long it has taken us to get where we are now. In other words, Paul boasts about them so people can see Christ even more! Being open and honest with what we struggle with, I find helps us as a Body of Christ to be sensitive to other people and also to His Spirit in what to pray for.
One of my all time favorite verses – 2 Corinthians 12: 9-10. It says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weakness, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
This masterpiece took one month to craft and shape. Let God take His time in what He wants to do in and through your life.
“For we are HIS workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
